My Friend Erika
I “met” Erika online a few years ago due to a shared interest in a certain silver-haired American Idol. Through an incredibly fun fan community, we got to know each other and some other great blogging friends. (Hi Music Maven! Hi Shrew!) When the site crashed on Blogger, Erika took the time to help and convert the whole thing over to WordPress, because that’s just the kind of giving person she is.
Through the years we stayed blogging friends with our common interests, like food and photography and of course Erika has inspired me many times with her recipes.
I took that crummy picture of The Bar with my cell phone but don’t let it fool you. I believe my first comment to Erika was something along the lines of, “it’s like eating butter in some otherworldly form.”
She inspired me to make that yummy bowl of ice cream via her own homemade ice cream rampage, and then there’s all that five-minute bread and my raspberry mojito sorbet, completely under the influence of her gin & tonic and mango margarita sorbets.
She’s been inspiring us all for years with her amazing photography skills too, whether with a point and shoot or with a DSLR. She’s a great teacher and makes concepts very accessible.
I was thrilled to finally meet Erika this summer at the Big Summer Potluck. She was just as sweet in person as online! And her mother is incredibly lovely. I had a chance to talk to Erika’s mom for a little while that day and she told me she believes that when you give to someone, the universe gives back one-hundred fold. I think she’s right, and if you’d like to start giving, now is the time. Alice from Savory Sweet Life and Maggy from Three Many Cooks have set up Friends of Ivory Hut, a site where we can all donate to help Erika through this time. Remember, every little bit helps so even if you only have $5 to spare, it would be so appreciated. Thank you.
